A Message from the Temple Israel COVID-19 Response Team

All of us are receiving, from multiple sources, a barrage of information and communications regarding the COVID-19 virus. At this point the agency with the most up to date information is the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They will update guidance as needed and as additional information becomes available. Please check the CDC website (click here) periodically for updated interim guidance or call the NYS Department of Health COVID-19 Hotline (888) 364-3065.

The following are some requests we are asking of the congregation as we proceed through this challenging time:

1) If you are unwell, not feeling healthy, or otherwise presenting symptoms like coughing and sneezing, please stay home for your own health and the potential safety of others.

2) Although we are a touching congregation, please do not shake hands or embrace during services.

3) Wash your hands frequently. According to the CDC, soap and water is fine and plentiful, whereas hand sanitizers like Purell are becoming scarce.

4) At kiddush, please always use a serving utensil, even for that one last cookie.

Events: As of now, there have been no cancellations for regular services, classes and Purim festivities. We will keep you posted should something change. To try out something new during Purim, we will live-stream the traditional Megillah reading that will take place in the Blue Room. All who are unable to attend the Megillah reading Monday evening are encouraged to join us remotely using your smartphone, tablet or computer. An email with instructions will be distributed Sunday.

Please know that we have enhanced our cleaning protocols based on the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, the New York State Department of Health, and the Office of Children and Family Services.

Lastly, please remember that we are a family who cares deeply for one another. Together we are all going through a stressful time, but according to all health officials and sources, this will pass. Should this burden feel too heavy on your shoulders, please reach out to a friend with whom to talk, call the synagogue to speak with a member of our clergy, or reach out to one of our Partners in Caring social workers with whom we have access through the Sid Jacobson JCC (516-484-1545 x196).

We will keep you informed as new information presents itself. Thank you for your understanding, kindness, caring and compassion.

Wishing you all a Shabbat Shalom!

B'Shalom,
The Temple Israel COVID-19 Response Team
